WELCOME TO THE CFZ BLOG NETWORK: COME AND JOIN THE FUN

Half a century ago, Belgian Zoologist Bernard Heuvelmans first codified cryptozoology in his book On the Track of Unknown Animals.

The Centre for Fortean Zoology (CFZ) are still on the track, and have been since 1992. But as if chasing unknown animals wasn't enough, we are involved in education, conservation, and good old-fashioned natural history! We already have three journals, the largest cryptozoological publishing house in the world, CFZtv, and the largest cryptozoological conference in the English-speaking world, but in January 2009 someone suggested that we started a daily online magazine! The CFZ bloggo is a collaborative effort by a coalition of members, friends, and supporters of the CFZ, and covers all the subjects with which we deal, with a smattering of music, high strangeness and surreal humour to make up the mix.

It is edited by CFZ Director Jon Downes, and subbed by the lovely Lizzy Bitakara'mire (formerly Clancy), scourge of improper syntax. The daily newsblog is edited by Corinna Downes, head administratrix of the CFZ, and the indexing is done by Lee Canty and Kathy Imbriani. There is regular news from the CFZ Mystery Cat study group, and regular fortean bird news from 'The Watcher of the Skies'. Regular bloggers include Dr Karl Shuker, Dale Drinnon, Richard Muirhead and Richard Freeman. The CFZ bloggo is updated daily, and there's nothing quite like it anywhere else. Come and join us...

BELTANE WAS A GAS

On Saturday the CFZ was invaded by la famille Wadham who came to eat cake. I mentioned this the other day and Rick from Paranormal Buffalo sounded impressed by the concept of cake, so I decided that a photograph of said cake was in order. Truly, Corinna and I are a marriage made in heaven: a woman who loves to cook and a man who loves to eat!

DR BEACHCOMBING ON THE INTERACTION BETWEEN ST. COLUMBA AND THE LOCH NESS MONSTER

Medieval saints were famous for their encounters with dangerous animals. In their Lives we read of confrontations with wolves, bears, stags and snakes; but also of meetings with more exotic creatures. Beachcombing thinks of St George facing down a dragon or St Brendan and his monks celebrating communion on the back of an enormous sea beast named Easter.

It is one of these more curious episodes that is sometimes (perhaps dubiously) clamed to be the first eye-witness account of the Loch Ness Monster.

OLL LEWIS: Yesterday's News Today

http://cryptozoologynews.blogspot.com/

On this day in 1999 the actor Oliver Reed died. Although sadly mostly known for appearing on chat shows in a squiffy state, he was also a very good actor when he wanted to be and starred in a number of films with Fortean themes like The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and The Curse of the Werewolf.
And now the news:

LIZ CLANCY: Canine conundrum

We've been living in the new house a couple of months now and on the whole we like it very much but there's summat up with the dog. For the last three weeks he has been a colossal pain in the backside.

It began with our little Pal waking us up first thing in the morning (and progressively during the night as well) by diving on one person's chest before running in to the other and repeating the action. He pants as if he's too hot but is usually shivering at the same time like he's cold. He dribbles all over the house. We let him out in the back yard but he's not satisfied.

We've checked with neighbours and none have a female dog in heat that ours perhaps could smell. Besides, he's been neutered.

We've taken to keeping our bedroom doors shut so he can't annoy us in the small hours of the morning so he's taken to shredding the boxes we've yet to unpack or (amazingly for such a titchy dog) jumping up onto the kitchen counters to knock stuff over! In the last couple of days he's taken to doing this whenever we leave the house.

Any ideas, please???
